Xcel Wetsuits was founded by Ed D'ascoli in 1982. Working out of the back bedroom of his house at Sunset Beach, Hawaii, Ed drew inspiration from the world class level of surfing that took place daily at his doorstep. The opportunity to work directly with the athletes, utilize one of the most demanding and difficult surf breaks in the world as a testing ground and the experience of growing up surfing in the frigid waters of New Jersey gave Ed the perfect combination of experience and circumstance to create a core wetsuit company that would quickly position itself as a leader in the industry.
